It Turns Out Our Shitty Year Was Due To Bad Luck
Check out this recent story from Sciencenews.org. They report findings that luck has more to do with winning than the strength of your team. Somebody funded this shit?
This study does not say that luck has more to do with winning than the strength of your team, just that there's still a lot of variance over 162 games in a sport where there's such a small difference in winning percentage between teams. That's not the difference between the Jays being slightly over .500 and in the playoffs, but it could easily be the difference between say, Boston and New York winning the AL.
