From the clippings file

Sometimes, when we post something on the blog that really kinda sucks, we take a moment to see what the others around the Jays sphere are talkin' 'bout, just to see if perhaps our suckiness is a reflection on the poor state of the team.

Unfortunately for our sense of self worth, we found lots of sound reason and salient points on the other sites today. Such as...

Snider in T.O.in '09?
It's not completely unreasonable to think that it makes sense to have the Great Big Giant Pasty White HopeTM Travis Snider play in the bigs next season, or so says Neate Sager in his always readable Zen Dayley column on Out of Left Field.

Vernon Wells is the worst centerfielder in the world
For a good part of last season and most of this one, we've had this nagging little voice in the back of our head that has been telling us that, Gold Glove be damned, Vernon Wells is not a great defensive center fielder anymore. Now, we can put a name to that voice: Jon Hale. In yet another fine piece on the Mockingbird blog, Hale points to some numbers that pretty much confirm that Wells is a shadow of his former self in the field.

Lloyd the Barber kinda loses his shit
You know what's weird? The fellas at Ghostrunner on First are always pretty consistently insightful and make us laugh, and yet we can't remember linking to them anytime recently. Hmm. How does happen? Anyways, Lloyd the Barber, girding his loins for his second stint as the "weekend sommelier" at Walkoff Walk, had a great piece on losing his religion and finding it hard to keep up the fight as a Jays fan in view of what a shit sandwich of a season this has turned out to be. (We feel your pain, buddy.)

Joanna takes Curt Schilling to task
The always ladylike and demure Joanna from Hum and Chuck had a few choice words for Curt Schilling. He had it coming.

The Jays need to get someone like Ramirez and /or Burrell to mix it up. Snider? Snider is a maybe prospect, there is nothing definitive on him yet and the Jays need tons of offense, no more question marks.......

If Paul Godfrey is going to post here, he should at least have the common courtesy to leave his name!

If Snider is a maybe prospect then I'm a maybe nerd.

Travis Snider is the second coming of Reed Johnson.

Except that Travis Snider doesn't run like a girl.

137 K's in 419 AB between A-AA...looks like another Adam Dunn...and we know what J.P. thinks of Adam Dunn....

Tao of Stieb said...

But Adam Dunn doesn't run like a girl.

Reed Johnson does.

John McDonald, Brad Wilkerson, Rod Barajas, Marco Scutaro, Lyle Overbay, David Eckstein, Shannon Stewart, Greg Zaun, Scott Rolen, Matt Stairs - nobody runs like a girl in that lineup - but they sure HIT like girls. I'd be embarrased to cheer for that roster. Underachieving and unproductive.

Reed Johnson runs like a girl, and hits right-handers like a fat slow middle-aged man.

Is Joe Tinker over here serious? Win a World Series this century and maybe we can talk.

The Ack said...

I guess my memo should have been to Fans of the Tampa Bay Rays AND Chicago Cubs.

cubs fan said...

Toronto hasn't won a WS this century either brainiac...

The Ack said...

Stoeten you artard (brainiac? Really?), you need to spell out for our little Cubs fan pal that you actually meant "in the last One Hundred Years."

cubs fan said...

Thanks for clarifying that (h)ack.
But in fact, the Cubs have won a WS in the last 100 years - October 14, 1908. That's less than 100 years ago, brainiac.

Zaun spells his name with 3 gs, bitch. May 10 000 Steve Bartmans rain down on Wrigley.

cubs fan said...

He's still an awful player, no matter how you spell his name.

The Ack said...

cubs fan, I didn't think I really had to spell it out for you, but the reference to "century" and "100 years" is meant to be a little facetious.

You know, intentionally using widely accepted milestones when referring to the franchise's history of losing. that sort of thing.

In the future, I will correctly calculate the appropriate number of days and months when administering good natured ribbing about your favorite team's lack of World Series titles.

Ok now? Are we good?

cubs fan said...

We're all good Ack! Thanks for clearing that up. I really don't mean to be an ass...but I've thrown out a few little tidbits about Reed Johnson, and some of your blogging buddies have gotten their underpants in a knot. It's all in good fun...I really enjoy your blog, which is why I'm here.

The Ack said...

Hey, if we're being honest about Reed Johnson, I was against his release (and subsequent signing of Shannon Stewart) from day one.....which kind of makes me an anamoly amongst Jays bloggers (although I wasn't blogging at the time, just commenting like a mother.)

We've beat the ever living shit out of that horse already, but I just never felt that Stewart would bring the offensive upgrade predicted.

...but anyways, enough about the Reeder (sniff...).

It's probably impossible to say this and sound sincere, but I honestly think we would all miss the Cubs fan if s/he left.
