High Five! We're back to .500!

We hope all you junior hockey fans are happy that we ended up missing a great game yesterday.

Overbay homers? Doc makes his first relief appearance since 2001? Jays win 6-5 and return to .500? Who'd want to watch that?

(And while we're on the topic: any chance that people could dial back the "the veterans of Canada's wars fought for our freedom, therefore we will have a hockey tournament in their honour" jive? Because, really, it is a hockey tournament sponsored by a credit card company, not a quiet moment at the cenotaph.)

It is probably too early to think in these terms, but the Blue Jays are four games behind Boston in the AL East, and three games behind Tampa for the Wild Card. So all is not lost.

Bizzarro stat of the year so far
The Blue Jays are 13-22 in night games, but they are 10-1 in day games. If you can figure that one out for us, by all means let us know why.

It's official, the 2008 Blue Jays are streaky.

Overbay homered about 30 seconds after the Philly TV guys had finished saying "He's not much of a home run guy, more of a extra base producer."

Then BAM, shut them up right fast.

Make some room on the bandwagon, boys, this fat ass is hopping up!

With the way the pitching has been and the seeming power vacuum behind this Red Sox, this could be our year for the WC. We just need to add a piece or two. Anyone heard any juicy trade rumours lately? ;)

The game was blacked out on MLB.tv, which I purchased for a month just to watch that game. I ended up listening to it on the PHI broadcast and wow, how terrible. After each foul ball was hit in the bottom of the 9th they would exclaim, "ooh" and "ahh". Terrible.

The game was broadcast on Sportsnet East when they returned from rain delay. Of course what good is that when most Jays fans (I assume) only get Sportsnet Ontario.

Funny, but we checked all of the Sportsnets, and all we could find is darts, or beer pong, or some such nonsense.

I don't see any problem with the memorial cup. Veterans rarely get recognition these days anyways, except for one day of the year.

It's true, and everyone knows nothing captures the efforts of veterans like high school kids playing hockey. Oh, Canada.

re: Bizarro stat

I think the Jays are reverse vampires.

Maybe the Jays leave their sunglasses on for night games.

The Jays need a bat in the lineup now that Wells is out. Or we could take the Rays 12 year plan of drafting right and producing our own players in our minor league system. ;)

In order to be a winner you need a bunch of people playing like MVPs. Young, old, middle, it don't matter who. Runs, hits, scoreless innings.

That being said, I would support a Lind for Dunn trade.

I don't think the Reds would. They'd want an arm I don't think we can afford to give up.

Tao of Stieb said...

Exactly - You can't say "we need a bat" without being willing to give up an arm in return.

And really, Burnett's got little value to other teams and Purcey's got to prove himself in the Majors at this point, because after seeing him get blown up a couple of times, no one is going to buy him as an emerging prospect.

Yeah, why does everyone think we have a plethora of arms available? If one of these arms burn out who is the fifth starter? Purcey? That's laughable.
