A two sentence post on....the spring rotation battle

I know that the prudent decision would be to break camp with Matt Clement in the rotation and the kids gaining some much needed experience down on the farm.

But who among us wouldn't be just a little more excited to see one of the young lefties, Cecil or Mills, head north with the big club?

Even with Clement joining the rotation, they're still a man short, so...

Halladay/Litsch/Jansen/Clement/Mills, anyone?

David Purcey is pretty much a sure thing

Don't count out Scotty Richmond just yet!

Doc/Litsch/Purcey/Janssen/Clement

AAA Cecil/Mills/Romero/Richmond/Ray

IR Marcum + McGowan

Depth looks pretty good to me I would love to see a young pitching for young hitting trade pulled off. A young 3B is what we need.

Second sentence seems more like a sentence fragment.

I noticed Ray pitched another inning today. Could we assume these are his "throwing day" appearances and that he's being stretched out to start in minor league camp?

I'm not sure we've seen Davis Romero a Jays game yet.

Somewhere, way back when, we speculated that Ray could be the surprise of this year...still worth keeping an eye on that dude.

Doc/Litsch/Purcey/Janssen/Cecil

Doc: 205 IP, 21-6, 2.88 ERA
Litsch: 190 IP, 15-15, 4.11 ERA
Purcey: 175 IP, 14-11, 4.10 ERA
Janssen: 160 IP, 12-13, 4.25 ERA
Cecil: 150 IP, 14-12, 3.65 ERA

Mills: 30 IP, 3-2, 3.95 ERA
Richmond:30 IP, 3-3, 4.65 ERA
Bullpen: 3.45 ERA

Reasonable predictions, IMO. 85+ wins. Maybe 90. This is a very good rotation, as long as Litsch and Purcey don't crash.

Even if they only win 75-80 games this year, it will be very interesting baseball. Good times ahead at the Dome.

instead of saying Manny or AJ...I'm just going to say Pedro.

That is all.

Reasonable, assuming nobody gets injured, which is a huge assumption. I also think your predictions for Cecil are a little lofty for his first year.

Still, I don't think your team win expectations are unreasonable.

And I suppose Vernon Wells will hit 40 HRs, Rios will go 30-30, and JP Arencibia will outhit Matt Wieters? Be reasonable. There's no way ALL of those things happen. Halladay might post a season like that, Litsch might not come back to earth, Janssen might not implode as a starter, Cecil might do his best David Price impersonation, and Purcey might impress, but not all of them.

I think the Jays will be lucky to crack 80 wins with their rotation, sadly. It's going to be 2010 or bust.

Oh, right, Purcey. Well, in that case, I say stick Mills/Cecil in Vegas and wait for Clement to flame out.

Halladay/Litsch/Purcey/Janssen/Clement.

Mills and Cecil in Vegas.

Even though we're winning the pennant this year, 2010 looks like it is still the focus.

Yes.

I'm confused. Didn't they decide to leave Janssen in the pen?

Navin Vaswani (@eyebleaf) said...

Andy, that's exactly the type of shit I'm talking about.

Vernon's going to jack 33 this year, and Rios will be 30-30.

It's going to be epic.

Cito confused Janssen and Accardo. That's where all the Jannsen in the pen, Accardo starting claptrap came from. And a 4.11 ERA for Litsch would be a crash.

Well the starter race has been narrowed down, on Bastian's twitter page he said Cecil has been returned to the minors camp and Maroth has been given the option of getting an unconditional release or heading to minors camp.

Janssen, Mills, Clement & Richmond battle for two spots behind Doc, Jesse, and Purcey.
