A two-sentence post on.... mixed emotions

Especially for fans of baseball north, winter is the longest and most desolate of seasons, robbing us of all the pleasures that baseball brings.

So tell me why, then, am I anxiously counting down the days of the post-season - one that I am thoroughly enjoying - with greedy eyes focused on the Hot Stove?

The only season more desolate than winter is a baseball season when your front office isn't particularly interested in winning any games for a few years.

Forgive me for being dense in reading your comment, Torgen....but you're implying another season (or two) of sandbagging ahead?

I meant that this winter is exciting because they spent the last two winters sandbagging--although really, JP didn't even have authority to sandbag in his last year.

I don't know about that... The 2010 season was by far the most fun I've had watching the Jays in a very long time, and that happened in spite of the fact that it was assumed from day one that playoffs weren't even a possibility. Good baseball is good baseball.

That said, I think that's a big part of why this upcoming hotstove season is so exciting. AA is constantly making out-of-the-box moves and I kinda get the feeling we could end up watching a very different team next year, but the possibilities are pretty exciting given that this team is already more likable than it has been in a long time.

i finally listened to Keith Pelley's interview on the PTS. Unless i am hearing it wrong, we should not expect any significant free agent signings this off season.

when asked about the payroll he said that it will have to go up as a result of arb cases, and that if in july or at the end of next year the team wants to take on salary then he thinks that would be do-able. at no point did he say payroll would be increased for this coming off-season, and at no point did he say that Rogers is committed to maintaining a higher payroll than they currently have. in fact, he went out of his way to praise the $55 million payroll of the Rangers.

this is not very promising. listen for yourself. it's on itunes, 5pm 10/27

I found last year's WS much more depressing with the Yanks and Phils. I just couldn't wait for it to be done. At least we have two different teams and neither bought the Series.

The Jays have consistently stated that they have no plans to make any significant off season free agent signings this off season, I'm not sure why anyone would still have the illusion that this would happen?

I think what most people are excited about is the fact that AA has identified that he was hesitant to pull the trigger on multiple deals last off season, and he won't make that same mistake this off season. Therefore from the sounds of it, he may trade everyone in the organization...twice. Should be fun!

I think the consistent msg from Management is that they'll spend the money when they're ready to add the last piece to the puzzle. The implication has been that they're not ready yet, but they haven't stated that.

This will be an exciting offseason more due to trades and smaller FA signings (Manny? bullpen?).

We have openings on the roster and a busybody GM.
