A One-Sentence Post on...Being the Man

This is why you open the vaults for a player like José Bautista: To be excellent when the situation calls for it; to lead through performance and not through soundbites and professions of willingness to assume a leadership mantle by default; and to lift a floundering team out of the doldrums when they need it most.

Couldn't agree more. Can you imagine if on top of everything else we had to worry about the threat of Bautista leaving as a free agent in the off-season.

Look at how happy Corey Patterson is!

Don't think we've forgotten how you really feel about this contract. Blogs have a great memory.

What a dumb cynical comment by Chad A. Douche. Has it ever occurred to him that Tao's current enthusiasm about the contract is likely just as sincere as any prior skepticism he may have expressed? Why must everything be so black and white? Opinions evolve as new information emerges. It's possible that Tao is reading too much into this hot start by Bautista but it's hard not to start believing when you see Jose pick up exactly where he left off last year. I for one am allowing myself to feel more optimistic about the contract and I'm not going to apologize for that nor am I going to apologize for my prior skepticism.

No, I actually appreciate Chad's comment. It's true that I was apprehensive about the contract, and still am on some level (towards the end).

On the other hand, I think that I'm buying into the rationale more and more.

The signing of the contract happened so quickly after the Wells trade that it was hard for many of us to distinguish one from the other.

It's crazy how visibly scared of Bautista pitchers are this year, but he's done a fantastic job of adjusting. I love watching smart hitters do their thing.

Noisy Flowers, how do you know my full name?

Tsk,tsk, little fella...try not to let your blood pressure get the best of you. Just taking the piss from someone I consider a friend.

(Even if he doesn't reciprocate.)
