A One-Sentence Post on...New Snider

When he left early in the season, Travis Snider (always the Great Big Giant Pasty White Rosy-Cheeked Hope to us) looked like a bad impression of Dave Kingman's worst seasons, but now he's returned looking like Wally Joyner in his good seasons, which - for those of you who are too young to really recall either of these 1980's - is actually a pretty solid trade off.

  1. A Wally Joyner that can play centre field? Yah, I'll take that.

  2. I was missing the one sentence posts. And I still think we can aim higher for Snider.

  3. To those that have actually seen Snider play since his return... does his swing look better/different at all?

  4. One thing to keep in mind - Joyner, at the same age, hadn't played a major league game yet. Snider will be just fine (and maybe he'll be a reasonable CFer too).

On the swing - I honestly don't believe that AA et al jack guys around for the sake of doing so, and I lack the ability to see the finer points/mistakes in swings. So while I've read that he is crouching more, etc., I'll take their word for it that they were addressing a problem, and that they feel it has been addressed. I'm guessing the OPS over his next 100+ ABs compared to his last before being sent down is the better indicator.

  5. Long term he will move to LF. He doesn"t have the range or arm to play anywhere else, but he can be a solid LF in the field.

  6. I think he'll have way more power than Joyner.
Remember when Kansas City was a Big Market club signing guys like Wally Joyner and the Davis boys (Storm and Mark). That Mark Davis signing especially was awesome.

  7. Snider keeps both hands on the bat, even during the follow through on his homer in CLE tonight. Looks like he has more time to start his swing, decide if its the pitch he wants.

Am I a hitting coach though? Hell no!
