A One-Sentence Post on...The Number Two Starter

We asked the Magic 8 Ball if 2010 would offer us yet another Summer of Tallet, and responded with "Ask Me Later", which seems just about right.

  1. I'll take a Spring of Tallet, while he holds down a rotation spot for Brett Cecil and/or R-Zep.

  2. Weird - mine said "Consult me later". But then again it's a cheap promo item from Marriott so how would it know anything about Tallet.

  3. Hey Tao,

Thought you would like to know that they are giving out Dave Steib bobble heads to the first 10 000 fans on Aug 29.

  5. Hmmm...

My x-rated magic 8 ball said: "Are you !@^!#$% serious???"

    Sounds ominous...

  6. Would love a Steib bobblehead. Although usually they sell them in the shop afterwards, so you don't have to fight for one with some 11 year-old ingrate who's going to leave it out in the rain anyhow.

Maybe one of the readers will get me one.

  7. I know Tallet is the reported guy, but I wonder why Jerry, Alan, & Mike kept telling everyone it's Romero tonight during the OD broadcast.

  8. Tao -- I will try to get you one. I plan to be at that game and usually get two. One always rots away in my storage locker.

  9. I went last year on a bobble head day, can't remember which (Lind??). I didn't make it there in time to grab one, then I sat beside a family of 5 and all of them had one. WTF are you going to do with 5 identical bobble heads in one house.

  10. I usually display one then keep the other as a "collectable" in storage.

10 years later you wonder why you are collecting (or hoarding) this stuff. A bobble head (or other giveaway) should find a good home and displayed.

  11. There is good news on the horizon:

Thank God. May we have a future shortstop hope.

  12. In the meantime, we just have to be patient. It may take 5 years before we are really competitive. I am ok with that.

  13. Cancun??? What, is the guy on Spring Break?

You think your readers will get you a bobble-head? You really think you have that kind of access? I mean, come on!

  15. Let the Spring of Tallet begin!

Also, Tao insert a pronoun into the "One Sentence Post," so that it is grammatically correct. For example, and IT responded with "Ask Me Later", which seems just about right.

  16. One of the biggest disappointments of my life was finding out that the Tao is a Jimmy Key man.

5 years to contend. Might as well trade Hill then.

  17. May not be a bad idea if you could get a couple of premium prospects for him. He will be 32 in a five years which can be old for a second baseman. It just depends how his body and skills holds up. Odds are against him though.

The idea should be to rebuild with young controllable players who are going to be future stars for the next 10 years. There should be no sacred cows for anyone past their prime if the price is met.

  18. Man, we've been down this road before. At some point, you have to hold onto your elite players instead of always looking to trade them for someone younger. What good is a perennial rebuild? You don't think the Jays can be good in 2 or 3 seasons?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I really don't know, Ack. My guess is five years if you want to be that elite team. But who knows. You don't expect our new Cuban shortstop to be a star player in 2 or 3 years, right?

You can be 2006-2008 good and not make the playoffs. Or you can really rebuild with prospects and then compliment them with free agents. Let's face it, those teams were very good but not the elite team that you need to be to win in this division.
