We've got these Silver Slugging guys

For all the talk about the core going forward, it's pretty freakin' sweet to have two Silver Sluggers in the middle of the Jays lineup. That's something you can build on.

It's the third time that two Jays win the award in the same year (Carlos Delgado and Vernon Wells in 2003, Delgado and Shawn Green in 1999). Which might mean something.

Things that rhyme

Do you think that it makes Phil Lind, Vice Chairman Rogers Communications, feel good when he hears the names Hill and Lind together? Hill Lind, Phil Lind...Hmmm. We don't know what the hell we're driving at with this. We just want the Rogers execs to feel happy about the team and get off their wallet.

  2. When I think of Rogers' wallet, I think of George Costanza's "morbidly obese" friend in his back pocket.

  3. This may get annoying...but:

    3 Team Trade
    TOR, SD, and ?

Take presumably elite prospects for Halladay from whomever and swing them to San Diego 4 Adrian Gonzalez.

    What do ya think fellas?

  4. If only the Jays could get one more bat to give some protection between Hill and Lind and they would be unstoppable.

  5. Yep, just like when the Celtics added Garnett and Allen and went from worst to first, if the Jays added Adrian Gonzalez and Felix Hernandez, in addition to keeping Halladay, they would make the playoffs next season.

However, back to reality, once Halladay is dealt, this teams pitching will be pretty scarey at times come 2010. It is the best long term strategy though.

  6. You forget that Shaun Marcum is the Greatest Blue Jay Pitcher of the (Forthcoming) Decade.

He's going to be awesome when he comes back. Top 10 pitcher in the majors.

No, I haven't been drinking. Yet.

  7. I agree, Tao. If Marcum can get back to his pre-Tommy John self, Shaun will be an excellent Tubbs to Halladay's Crockett.

  8. Dusty McGowan is going to have a comeback of epic proportions.

    Just you wait and see.

  9. Do you guys think the Jays get appreciably more for Halladay in the off-season as opposed to the 2010 trade deadline? I don't.

Might as well see how the chips fall in 2010. Ya never know.

  10. I think they get more now. Which is why they should deal him before Christmas.

At this point, I'd rather have Halladay leave. How can I start missing him if he's still on the team?

  11. re: trading Doc - I think they'll get more now than at the deadline because there is fuck all available on the FA market, outside of John Lackey, while who knows who could be out there at the deadline?

Plus, I'd rather grieve over the winter.

  12. I was thinking teams that have a genuine shot at the trade deadline will often overpay.

In any case, why are we not hearing more about interest from the Dodgers. There is no team closer that could benefit more from a bonafide ace.

  13. The sooner AA trades Doc, the better. I'm with The Ack: a winter to grieve.

  14. Sway is an excellent choice Tao...

  15. In the offseason, I think the Jays will give a window for the acquiring team to extend Doc. JP made waves about that after the trade deadline.

That helps his value right now.
