Hermida, Hardy and...Halama?

As god is my witness, I thought the stories about the Jays scouting John Halama were just a throw away joke.

Not so funny, though, is it?

Now mind you, we were the ones who for two years defended the low-risk signings of Ohka/Thompson/Zambrano, and we still would. And to be honest, if we hear that Halama has transformed himself into a half-decent LOOGY, and they can sign him for a box of Timbits and a double-double, then so be it.

But Ivan DeJesus on a pogo stick, it sucks the life out of us to hear that two guys on whom we had irrational mancrushes, Jeremy Hermida and J.J. Hardy, are off the market before the Yankees' ticker tape parade has even begun.

Maybe there are better solutions out there for the Jays. Maybe Chris Snyder spends next year squatting behind the plate, or maybe maybe there is a deal in the works to bring some young promising short stop to Toronto. Maybe we just have to believe in The Plan.

There's 100 days until spring training, and they're going to be long, cold, and miserable. May your higher power or believe guide you through this.

  1. Strip down to the drawers - or go straight buck if you're so inclined - and run around the block a few times until you're completely out of breath and have lost most of your will to live.

Give away your favourite wardrobe items to save on the costs of laundering them, and roll with whatever's left in the bottom of the drawer.

Then go shopping for new clothes next winter with the money you've saved.

    Sound like a Plan?

(Cynicism sucks. I hate myself more than ever right now.)

  2. What if my higher power (where the Jays are concerned anyways) is this site? I'm starting to feel like a Seventh Day Adventist.

If I get to Toronto in 2010, fuck the Jays, I am going to a TFC match. At least their fans supposedly sing in the stands. I bet it will be like this.

  3. Okay, not time to panic yet. The Jays should now focus their attention on picking up Brandon Wood to play SS, and one of Shoppach or as you mentions Snyder to be their next backstop.

I'm going to need a pretty big bag.

  5. Why's everyone so down? The Plan, did you forget about The Plan? The one that was supposed to be revealed this week and it's 4:15 on Friday. You know, The Plan.

  6. I guess they could always wait until after the GM meetings to come up with a plan.

Is it too early to fire either Beeston or AA?

  7. Fire Beeston, AA and Cito. Let Roy run the whole show. I'm sure doing all of those jobs at once as well as pitching and pitching coach/bullpen would still be under utilizing him.

  8. Don't remember where, but I read an AA quote placing the release of The Plan after this weekend... still have till the 9th-11th to start up again with the angst.

Till then I'm indulging in some higher power...

    1. We admit we are powerless over our fanatic tendencies towards The Blue Jays - that our lives have become unmanageable.

    2. Come to believe that a Power greater than ourselves can restore us to sanity.

    3. Make a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of A higher power as we understand it.

    4. Make a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

    5. Admit to our Higher Power, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

    6. Make ourselves ready to have our Higher Power remove all these defects of character.

    7. Humbly ask it to remove our shortcomings.

    8. Make a list of all persons we have harmed, and become willing to make amends to them all.

    9. Make direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

    10. Continue to take personal inventory and when we are wrong promptly admit it.

    11. Seek through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with our Higher Power as we understood it, praying only for knowledge of it's will for us and the power to carry that out.

    12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to Blue Jays fanatics and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Step 11 seems to be especially relevant at this point in my recovery. Or maybe it's just the higher power talking.

  10. WHY would you waste your time on john halama? WHY? the guy is 37, has a career ERA nowhere near impressivetown and he hasn't pitched in the bigs since 2006. WHY should we give a shit about him?

  12. Halama was likely throwing on a beach in Punta Cana...not really a waste of time at all.

  13. Now, now, just because A A has shunted himself into his cubby hole and has yet to emerge from his self imposed exile doesn't mean that things are going to hell. Yes, other teams are making transactions, but they have the benefit of playing in easier divisions and have the continuity of a front office. The worst thing A A could have done after he was hired was to channel Fubar's Dean'r and boldly announce that his plan simply is to 'Give'r'.
(Though in Deaner's defence, Given'r is a plan right there).

Institutional changes - which is what AA is trying to do, I think - need time. Will this Job-like patience keep them out of the market for better talent? That may be a moot point if rebuilding is the plan.
