One man's DFAed trash is another man's treasure (but only at the league minimum salary)

For those of you who were getting nostalgic for the Mencherson days: MLB Trade Rumo(u)rs passes along the news (via an email from Buster Onley) that the Jays have signed David Dellucci.

Dellucci pretty much perfectly fits the Mencherson mould of a guy who had a good year or two at some point, but who has failed to much of anything since.

The signing likely means that Voodoo Joe Inglett will head back to Vegas or get his walking papers.

  1. Crap. If they were going to do this they should have left Joe down in triple A. Something bad will happen when he is sent away. I wish I could think of a term for it.

On the bright side David Delucci makes me think double D which makes me happy.

  2. Maybe somebody on the Jays coaching staff said they can fix him.

  3. Or maybe Rolen was singing along to Coldplay's "Fix You" on his ipod and JP got all misty and wanted to sign a reclamation project.

  6. Of all the games in this series to sit Scoots, why this one?

  7. Well, Millar's doing ok against lefties. He's had one fewer at-bat versus righties, and sucks. If Lind's gonna be the everyday left fielder, then we ought to be platooning our DH - Millar - with a lefty.

20 plate appearances for Inglett has him at a -4 OPS+, and we've seen in the past that the Jays will make a move based on that much data. (Which, if it's that versus what Mench and Wilkerson got last year, I'll take this.) I guess that's why they jumped on the first left-handed DH-type that was available.

Kyle Phillips is hitting .368/.430/.496 in Vegas, though.

  8. Stencherson gives way to Delarglett?

  9. I really wish you guys would stop taking Mencherson's name in vain. You call yourselves fans? Shame.

It doesn't make sense, BUT they will try to Citoize AND Ginoize him no doubt. It's a cheap pickup that will not make a world of difference but if it works out good for the Jays.@ Jonsey, not a bad thought about KP. If Inglett tanks completely then send him down and bring on Phillips.
