Oh Jamie Campbell...You are such a nerd

Please tell us that we completely misheard you, and that you didn't just drop a Kenny Loggins lyric to start off the World Series pre-game show.

Because if you really did, then that's way beyond sad.

What...you couldn't think of any inspirational Huey Lewis lyrics off the top of your head? Didn't have the time to rattle off a full throated version of Starship's "We Built This City"?

Isn't it a little bit of a bummer that we're going to have to brave our way through another bone-chilling Canadian winter to get to the next season, and our great reward for making our way through it is to have six months of Jamie Campbell prattling on about sweet shite-all.

Possibly the worst (and best) writing on the Blue Jays, all in one fell swoop
We're not sure who Aaron Miller is, or why somebody at CityNews.ca decided to transcribe his crayon scribblings and post them on their website.

Miller's article is so dumbfoundingly empty-headed and ridiculously pointless that reading it left us with a nausea that we haven't felt since we were 12 and went a little crazy with the speed on the teacups ride at the county fair with a belly full of cotton candy and corndogs.

Thank goodness, there's Neate at Out of Left Field to give him the Fire Joe Morgan treatment. It's a worthy hommage to the great Ken Tremendous, and worth the read.

  1. I liked Andrew's column better when I wrote it two weeks ago with the premise "none of these guys would play every day on the 2008 Blue Jays."

    Brutal.

  2. Aaron, not Andrew. All my credibility is now gone.

  3. Oh my god, it's so depressing to see former Jays find success on other teams! I can't believe that the organization would deal away Eric Hinske.

    Journalism at its finest, folks!

  4. By the way Tao, which lyric did Campbell use to start the show? I hope it was "Headin' into twilight
    Spreadin' out her wings tonight
She got you jumpin' off the track
    And shovin' into overdrive".

  5. Does anyone see JC moving onto a different job anytime soon? Other than that, he's going to have to retire someday.

Nobody knows how better than this guy to drain entertainment from a baseball game.

  6. @Hunter:

The lyric was from a song called "This Is It", which we are happy to say that we don't know.

(And which doubles the fun on this: It wasn't just Kenny Loggins...it was OBSCURE Kenny Loggins.)

    @Lloyd

Now that you mention it, we remember that post of yours, which nailed it. Moreover, it's not like many of these guys went directly from Toronto to their current teams. Werth, Gross, Hinske, Miller...they all had other stops along the way, so it's a little rich to take the point of view that Andrew or Aaron or Aardvark or whatever took.

That article was just a typical example of a Toronto douchebag sports media type mistaking cynicism for insight. Maybe one day, he'll grow up to become the next Gareth Wheeler.

  7. Maybe the Loggins song was rocking the jukebox in the Halifax bar when JC smooched his female co-worker, and thus, burned into his memory.

Oh, and completely off topic, but fuck Joe Maddon by the way. Now he's whining about the alleged substance on Joe Blanton's cap. Seems the Rays are the only team that plays the game the "right" way, I guess.

  8. Obscure Kenny Loggins? I like The Ack's theory as to why JC even knows the words to that song. What's next ... Night Ranger?

  9. haha, this is not the first time he's started a game with an obscure song quote. He said "it's cold outside, but it gets so hot in here" from U2's 11 O'Clock Tick Tock earlier this year.

  10. Except that 11 O'Clock Tick Tock is actually kind of a good song by a band that was good once upon a time.

But Kenny Loggins is Kenny Loggins.

    Kick off your Sunday shoes.

  11. BTW...we just finally realized which song "This Is It" actually is...and it is not obscure at all.

If you grew up in the early 80's, you heard it a million times on AM radio.

It's just that some of us left the song back where it belonged.

How is it that we're still talking about Kenny Frickin' Loggins?

  12. I'd prefer to take the Highway to the Danger Zone, if you don't mind Tao.

  13. JC, JP fuck em all! Loggins is a gutless dicklicker. He was the darling of AC radio in the lates 70s/early 80s.U2 is a good reference though especially the song in question BUT Loggins and Night Ranger. Those groups make Triumph look edgy! I don't wanna hear comments about Gil Moore tracks either, they were three chord wonders with a loud guitar part! Mike Levine only knew two notes on the bass BUT they blew away Loggins......

  14. Cynical motherfuckers, aren't we?

  15. "This is It" is my favourite Kenny Loggings song. So many good memories attached to it. So go ahead boys, do your worst.

  16. That piece at CityNews caused me to throw up in my mouth.

Tao/Ack, what are your thoughts on Mike Jacobs?

  17. Look at that BJ Upton run down a line drive into deep center! It's like he's Motorin'! Yeaaahhhh, motorinnnn!

  18. If Jamie Campbell busts out that lyric tonight, it would be fucking hilarious! "Motorin!"
