For as much shit as we piled on top of David Eckstein this year, we're glad to see him make his way to a contender. And wouldn't you know, the gritty gamer managed to drive in the game-winning RBI last night for the D-Backs. Good on him.
Our antipathy towards Eckstein had little to do with his offensive performance and everything to do with the fact that he was keeping John McDonald on the bench following his breathtaking 2007 season in the field. We wanted to see more of that magic, and Eckstein was an impediment to our happiness. That's all.
Besides which, doesn't it seem right that Little X should be in a pennant race and wearing a red cap?
You can't help but hoping that the scrappy little elf finds post-season success with the D-Backs.
ReplyDeleteBut -- and this is going to sound really petty -- I still hold Scrappy Doo partly responsible for us losing Aaron Hill for most of the season. Although he never meant to go upside Aaron's head, I can't help think that if he was a better defensive player, the collision would have never happened.
Anyway, godspeed to the little munchkin. He was a classy dude who never complained, no matter what role he was thrown into. Unlike some back-up catchers I could mention.
Cheers.
You know, we'd actually thought that a little more blame should be shovelled on to Eckstein for that play. It seemed a little careless and reckless, and we're sure that it was an example of grittiness gone wrong.
ReplyDeleteFuck that, he called off Hill, SS has priority, even if he sucks at the position.
ReplyDelete"SS has the priority" is an old wives tale.
ReplyDeleteWe know because your momma told us that when our midget league baseball team went to your place for "milk and cookies".
It's a SEDONA red cap. I really wish you'd get your facts straight Tao, you imprecise bastard.

ReplyDeleteLOL...well played, Ack...
Grittiness gone wrong...that reminds me of the Dave Chappelle skit: When Keeping It Real Goes Wrong
Do you drive in the game-winning RBI? Or do you just drive in the game-winning run? Just askin'.
ReplyDeletesaxrdrunk, I'm still pissed about what happened to Hill too. But Scrappy has been all class since then, so I can honestly wish him well.
ReplyDeleteLittle Eckstein was brought in for his leadership role because the Jays were suppose to be competing for a spot in the playoffs. Too bad the playoffs part didn't work out.
ReplyDeleteI am happy with what he brought to the team.
