...the Big Hurt cracked his 500th career HR.
Try not to whoop-whoop too loudly from your desk.
Update: And then you have your fifth inning exit by A.J. Burnett, Jason Frasor perfecting his Kerry "Light It Up" Lightenberg impression, and the Jays limping away with an 8-5 loss.
Special Added Bonus: Thomas and Gibby get ejected from the game in the ninth inning (seriously, who the hell gets ejected in the ninth?) for arguing balls and strikes.
Too bad the whole 500 HR thing has been corrupted. Frank Thomas is one of the guys I suspect was born without needing to cheat for more strength, but we live in an era where only the PR department of the Blue Jays give a fuck about this.
ReplyDeleteThomas doing it is still special... there's no flies on him. His .423~ career on-base and his park-adjusted OPS (58% above league average) are both better than a number of 500-home run club members.
ReplyDeleteI can't confirm nor dispute those numbers, but I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment. I just wish the likes of Sammy Sosa and Mark MacGuire hadn't curdled the beauty of 500 HR. Hard to feel good that it took those two juice monkeys to save baseball back in 1998.
