Eventually even kids realize it ain't gonna happen.

For those who want to go the full "prospects not free agent route", I had a look at the Baseball Almanac's farm system ratings since 2000. If the theory that getting enough prospects would eventually lead to the promised land, then the teams with top 5 farm systems should be fantastic, right?

The teams with the most top 5 farm systems since 2000 are: Atl(6), LAA(4), LAD(4), TB(4), and NYY(4).
The teams with the most bottom 5 farm systems since 2000: Hou(5), STL(5), Oak(4), Was(4), and a bunch with 3.

Doesn't look quite as a guaranteed lock that a farm system will bring prosperity now, does it? STL seems to be doing okay.Paulhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11933150363003003531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2484762138483195409.post-42778876589643243892011-12-05T13:56:26.096-05:002011-12-05T13:56:26.096-05:00And, in retrospect, if there's one thing I hav...And, in retrospect, if there's one thing I have learned from this regime (AA/Beeston), its that A) if you hear it, it probably isnt true, and B)dont believe anything.

If the story that AA is "agonizing" over some things that are at the "5-yard line", then I am going to assume, they are big moves. We need a big bat to protect Bautista while he's in his prime. We can get a bullpen easily after the big names sign, and can deal Lind/Snider/Drabek for a frontline starter (maybe Garza?). Get the bat while its available.

I know. Im nuts.
Oh well.
LOLMelancholyInkerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17647165282329959429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2484762138483195409.post-50902435073910228772011-12-05T12:35:59.367-05:002011-12-05T12:35:59.367-05:00If the clock keeps ticking on that $120M+ payroll,...If the clock keeps ticking on that $120M+ payroll, by the time they get to that point it'll be irrelevant due to inflation in other payrolls.
