Of course managers aren't sitting in the batting box with the hitters, but certainly, they're in their heads.

The Jays rehired both Cito and Gibby with poor results. I can't convince anyone who believes that management doesn't matter that it does.

The lineup is a mess. Bautista does not belong at the two spot. He has good RISP stats and terrible one out stats. The team as a whole would be doing alot better with Bautista in the 3 spot and Edwin at cleanup. Lawrie does not belong at 2B in MLB. He is defensively superior at 3B. Experimenting with Lawrie at 2B mid-season is just messing with his playing abilities.

Gibby played tons of musical chairs with the lineup in May and stuck Arencibia in the 4 and 5 spot until early June, bad decisions.

Gibby makes great decisions on bullpen management. And the Jays have been addled with more than their share of injuries this year, with Reyes being out for a couple of months, Cabrera playing on a bum leg, and Lawrie getting hurt.

AA makes great trade decisions.

But everything else appears to be lacking.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13316099566818560940noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2484762138483195409.post-10130823954418122642013-07-18T21:40:58.610-04:002013-07-18T21:40:58.610-04:00Just look at Boston's transformation from last...Just look at Boston's transformation from last year to this year with essentially the same pitchers...Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14602218951933054602noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2484762138483195409.post-63729063272061790962013-07-18T21:35:44.197-04:002013-07-18T21:35:44.197-04:00Re: Dan. My depth chart for SP's next year looks like:

Dickey
Morrow (hopefully healthy)
Happ
Rogers
Romero (yes, Romero)

hopefully we can move Buerhle at some point. then we have:

Nolin
Drabek
Hutchison
Stroman, plus whoever else AA can find that might help us. This is a lot better than most teams projections.

This year we got bit by Morrow's injury (big time), Happ's freak injury, Dickey's struggles (can he return to form?), and Romero's falling apart (which was unsurprising, but maybe not bad in the grand scheme if he comes back in good form), and JJ's suckage (with flashes of brilliance).

All of those 5 starters have been disappointments, but that's not to say that next year they can't be really good. The revelation of Esmil Rogers has been wonderful to see, and IF we are blessed with a healthy rotation next year, we even have Drabek, Hutch, Nolin, & Stroman who realistically could potentially fill in if needed. There's nothing wrong with this team.

I don't even count Buerhle because he is no better than a replacement player (at this stage), maybe he can be moved???Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14602218951933054602noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2484762138483195409.post-42501134248740925712013-07-18T17:09:37.246-04:002013-07-18T17:09:37.246-04:00Somehow, this is even more optimistic than I think...Somehow, this is even more optimistic than I think warrants. You at least think the major problems are limited to the rotation. Would that it were so. To me, the lineup is just as much of a trainwreck. I see three reliable players in there, and your guess is as good as mine if Lind makes it four. Rasmus and JPA, over the course of an entire season, take as much off the table as they put on. And we have black holes at three other positions.

So yes, this team sucks.Dan Daousthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10970813701580735359noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2484762138483195409.post-20939065555842575562013-07-18T16:33:55.996-04:002013-07-18T16:33:55.996-04:00They could. But after looking at the Yankees' record with all of their downtrodden luck, the Red Sox and their Victorinos and Napolis averagely filling holes, at what point does one begin to give up on hope?

I've been hardcore since '89, rode through the Ash Clueless Mismanagemt Tour, the Hype and Post-Hype Ricciardi regime, and now this. Given the controllability of virtually every player that matters, save Johnson (does he matter?), through at least next year, I think the same group could play mightily better in 2014.
